Street Trash

Street Trash is a1987 Horror-Comedy "Melt Movie" (a sub-genre of Grindhouse) that is pretty sweet. It's ridiculously funny, and you should all check it out.
Roy Frumkes (screenplay author) said:
"I wrote it to democratically offend every group on the planet, and as a result the youth market embraced it as a renegade work, and it played midnight shows."
It's about bums living in New York City who buy this liquor that melts them alive. The gore effects kinda remind me of Evil Dead but with more colors.

an early Halloween Gift

For those of you who don't know, Sam Raimi and friends made a short film in 1978 called Within the Woods. It's somewhat of a prequel to The Evil Dead trilogy. It's about a half hour long, and the quality is pretty crappy, but it's pretty sweet none the less. Bruce Campbell and the Evil Dead crew are extremely young in this (Bruce actually looks like a sissy compare to the badassness of Ash). The gore effects are pretty classic and the music is evil and creepy as fuck. The music that plays when Bruce is on the hunt is Sunn O))) caliber heavy. Consider this an early Halloween gift. "JOIN US!" and enjoy.

Wintersun

Wintersun is the new band of Kai Hahto (former drummer of Rotten Sound). They play Progressive Power metal with Black metal and Folk elements. They're really sweet.

Rotten Sound

Rotten Sound is a Finnish grindcore/death metal band. They are, in my opinion, the best blend of death metal and grind (with some crust elements) ever. Exit will end your life.

1997 Under Pressure

1998 Drain
This album has a really awesome sound. It's pretty groovy.

2005 Exit
This is my favorite album by Rotten Sound. Nation has the fastest double peddle beat ever.

2008 Cycles
Their newest album, Cycles, is also really rad.

My friend fucktheglorydays is gonna start reviewing stuff on here. He's the man and i'm happy to have him contributing.

So, i was high as fuck when i watched these videos (courtesy of my roommates) and i found them very amusing.

I may or may not post anything tomorrow (it's chuck and heroes night), but if I do, it will probably be something really fucking heavy.

What's it gonna be?

Richard Cheese & Lounge Against the Machine

If you don't know who Richard Cheese is, you suck at music.

But seriously, Richard Cheese & Lounge Against the Machine do Lounge music style covers of classic rock, pop, metal, and numetal (which make the funniest covers). He's really funny and a great vocalist and his covers are so great that they actually make me enjoy songs i otherwise would hate. Check it out, motherfucker.

David Bazan (Pedro the Lion/Headphones)

I love everything David Bazan touches. In my eyes he can do no wrong.

I'll start off with Pedro the Lion

It's Hard to Find a Friend
The Only Reason I Feel Secure EP (Bonus Tracks)
Winners Never Quit

Achilles Heel
Stations EP
2004 Tour EP

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

Now onto Bazan's Synth-rock project Headphones. Headphones has a fairly different sound from Pedro. It has a darker, lower tone, and doesn't feel quite as up-beat, but I still like it alot.

Headphones Rock

David Bazan's new solo record is called Fewer Moving Parts.
He's also got a new DVD out called "Alone at the Micophone" which I hope to get my hands on soon.

the Fall of Troy / the 30 Years War

I know people consider this band "trendy, scene, and lame" but i still dig them. Their older stuff is epic as shit and sounds sweet when you're baked.

I'm not gunna put up their disco (unless someone really wants me to) since they're pretty popular, but I'm gunna up some stuff that not everyone may have.

I think their best work is the Ghostship EP. It's pretty dark, heavy, and epic.

Before they were the Fall of Troy, they were the 30 Years War (with a slightly different lineup).
The 30 Year War's Martyrs Among the Casualties

Here is The 30 Years War live at the Paradox in 2002.

Here is the bonus disk from Manipulator for anyone who doesn't have it.

I've got some live stuff that i'm gunna put up once i'm done getting music off my old harddrive.

Enjoy, and as always, password is: witness

Rocky Votolato

Rocky Votolato is an insanely talented singer/songwriter/musician with a very interesting and colored past (as you can see by reading the Wikipedia article i've included). I've uped his Solo discography (excluding his split with Seth Warren, which I can't find anywhere). He was a member of the band Waxwing before turning solo, but I haven't been able to find any of their work either (if anyone has any, please contact me).

"Rocky Votolato is an Italian-American musician. He was born in a rural hospital near Carrolton, Texas in 1978, though was raised in the Pacific Northwest. When his former band Lying on Loot disbanded in 1996, Rocky Votolato, along with friends Rudy Gajadhar (drums) and Andrew Hartley (bass), started playing under the name Waxwing. Rocky's younger brother Cody (The Blood Brothers) soon joined the band on second guitar, and the band recorded their debut 7" for Henry's Finest Recordings. In 1999, Second Nature Recordings released their first full-length, entitled 'For Madmen Only'. Blending straight-up rock with elements of post-hardcore, and Cody's metal reminiscent guitaring, Waxwing soon established a strong local following. It was a feat built upon with their two succeeding albums 'One For the Ride' (2000) and 'Nobody Can Take What Everybody Owns' (2002).

In 1999, Rocky Votolato branched out from his work with Waxwing, having written a handful of songs which did not really fit in with their more aggressive, fast tempo syle. Along the way he has toured with the likes of Damien Jurado, Small Brown Bike, The Get Up Kids, The New Amsterdams, Owen and The Casket Lottery, members of the latter having provided assistance as backing musicians on occasion. His studio albums have also been littered with appearances from some of Seattle's finest musicians (including players in the bands Red Stars Theory, Sharks Keep Moving, The Blood Brothers, Death Cab for Cutie, Pedro the Lion and Sub Pop solo artist Rosie Thomas). On the production side, Votolato has worked with Matt Bayles (Pearl Jam, Botch, Murder City Devils, Hayden), along with Chris Walla (of Death Cab for Cutie). It is a creative input which has helped see Rocky progress stylistically with every release, from his low key self-titled album released in 1999 - all pretty much recorded live, right through to his recent, alt-country, folk-esque offering, 'Makers'. A video was shot for the first track of Makers, "White Daisy Passing", a song which also appears on the soundtrack of the forthcoming Seattle indie feature film Cthulu.

Rocky also starred in the film 'The Edge of Quarrel', which he worked on with Dave Larson from Excursion Records. It also includes members of the Murder City Devils and Botch, and is about a gang war between straightedgers and punk rockers.

He is married with two children, and lives in Seattle." - Wiki

Sunn O)))

Come, children, let us take a little trip to the cursed realm of the winterdemons. I feel like i've got a winterdemon in my head (i'm hungover as fuck) and i'm smoking my last cigarette while listening to some rocky votolato (which will be my next post) so i'm gunna post until this advil kicks in.

Here's most of my Sunn O))) collection (i lost some of my live stuff due to one of those "u unplugged ur xternal fux u LOLz" errors)

[1999] - The Grimmrobe Demos (demo, re-issue)

[200-2001]
00 Void & Flight of the Behemoth
"Death becomes you," motherfucker. The For Whom the Bell Tolls (FWTBT) cover is really sick. Cliff Burton would be proud.

[2003] White1
This is a really good album. "My Wall" was the first song i ever heard by Sunn O))) and it rocked my fucking world. "The Gates of Ballard" is also phenomenal.

[2003] - Veils It White (12'' EP, live)
[2004] - Candlewolf Of The Golden Chalice (The Peel Session) (12'' EP, live)
[2004] - Cro-Monolithic Remixes For An Iron Age (EP)

[2004] The Horn and The Spear EP

[2004] White2
part 1
part 2

I also like this album alot. "Hell - O))) ween" is heavy as balls and "BassAliens" is fucked up.

[2004] Live White
part 1
part 2

[2004] The Libations of Samhain (Live EP)
part 1
part 2

2005 - Black One
part 1
part 2

Black One is my favorite Sunn O))) album (as i'm sure it is/will be yours). Every song is amazingly heavy. The first time I heard this album I was listening to it through nice headphones, in my bedroom, in my empty house, at 2 am. I wasn't even high and it scared the shit out of me. I think everyone should listen to this album on halloween ( + Hell - O))oween from White2, of course). You might even scare trick-or-treaters if you blast it loud enough.

Here's Solstitium Fulminate the 2nd disc of the 2-disc special edition of Black One (i've included the alternate versions of "Sin Nanna" and "It Took the Night to Believe").

This is kinda cool. My friend showed it to me awhile ago. It's "the critical boiling point of water" to Orthadox Caveman.

[2005] Live @ Roadburn Festival (9/4/05)

[2006] La Mort Noir dans Esch - Alzette (Live Limited Edition)
part 1
part 2

[2006] Angel Coma (EP, split with Earth)

[2006] Live @ TeganTonen (3/3/06)

[2007] Oracle
part 1
part 2

[2007] Sunn O))) & Boris' Altar (Japanese Version with bonus tracks)
part 1
part 2
part 3

This album is seriously FUCKING AMAZING. I had mixed feelings about Boris until i heard this album. It's a masterpiece. Just download it, smoke a bong, and listen to it RIGHT NOW.

[2008] Domkirke (live)

Check out their Encyclopedia Metallum entry for some helpful links/info/lyrics.

Here's their old page (that still gets updated) and heres the Sunn O)))/Boris page.

I've got FLACs of 00 Void, Flight of the Behemoth, Black One, and White2. If anyone wants me to up those let me know.

small update

So, I've convinced my roommate to contribute to this blog, so I'm hoping that it will be even more well rounded now since he listens to mostly pop-punk and ska (which i stopped doing when i graduated high school).

Also, I wanted to say that if you want me to upload FLACs of anything i post, that i might be able to do so (i have a fairly extensive FLAC library, but it's not almighty or anything).

I'm almost done uping a Sunn O))) disco, but a bong and a bottle are calling my name so that might have to wait until tomorrow.

here's to beers and bedroom moshing. cheers, kids

Gorillaz

Before I even get started talking about how much this band rules I want to up Monkey's Journey to the West

Monkey is the newest project of Damon Albarn (of Blur and Gorillaz) and they rule pretty hard.
Their album Journey to the West is a musical retelling of the classic Chinese epic folktale of the same name (it is often called "Monkey" in the U.S.). You will like Journey to the West (even if you don't speak Chinese) if you're a fan of eastern music, the Gorillaz, or the classic folktale.

Monkey's myspace

Now, onto the bigger primate of concern...

I'm sure everyone in the world is familiar with Gorillaz, whether it be via Clint Eastwood, 19-2000, or Feel Good Inc. If you've never heard anything other than their radio songs/music videos, then you're missing out on some awesome music. Gorillaz blend so many different styles, instruments, and artists that it's impossible to truly pin them down in any genre. Every song on a Gorillaz album sounds different from the previous track, they never get old, and they sound so fucking chill when you're high.
Gorillaz first self titled release is one of my favorite albums of all time.
